Now that I have learned a few techniques and have a better understanding of settings on my camera I am going to explore how photography can be used in a classroom. In the next few blog posts I am going to discuss different ways how photography can be used in a classroom.
Using Photography for Assessment
Today, I am going to provide an example of using photography for assessment. In a recent in-situ experience I used photographs to quickly document students success in a concept. This was a convenient and effective tool to use. The lesson was for kindergarten and grade one students on sorting and classifying. My teaching partner and myself created a template of what and how we were expecting students to be able to demonstrate their learning. See pictures:
With having our learning outcomes demonstrated in a visual product it made it very accessible for us to provide a quick assessment for “as learning” the concept of sorting and classification.
After the lesson students had the opportunity to try out different sorting rules.
Next weeks blog topic: using photography to document outdoor activities with students.

Hey Jennie I really enjoy the concept of using photography as an assessment tool! I would be really cool to bring out all the photos during a parent teacher conference to show the parents their kids development within your classroom! I really enjoyed reading through your blog and I think your photography looks fantastic! I think having the sentence at the bottom with your plan for next week is a great idea! It shows you have the project well planned out and gives me something to be excited for! It would also be a great feature to add keep parents up to date in a classroom blog.
