This week we had an amazing opportunity to visit Maryville Elementary School, which is located just before Kimberley. Marysville is in School Division 6, this made the experience interesting. I have driven by Marysville school before but have not had the opportunity to visit. It was nice to visit and become familiar with another school/community. Having the chance to visit other school districts can enhance our experience in the teaching world.

The school staff was welcoming, students were very excited to see us. Our goal was to create a stop motion video guided by the students in the grade 3 class. I worked in a group that included Claire, myself and three amazing students. The group of students we worked with, worked really well together. The students collaborated together and were open to receive feedback from us. Teamwork was a big part of their process. They were very open to sharing the responsibilities. The level of engagement the students had with this project was truly amazing.

The students created some fun stop motion videos. They started with character and story development, and set creating. The team then began shooting the video. I really enjoyed observing and guiding students with this project. It does amaze me how fast students learn to create with and operate technology. I like how easy the iPads were to use, for myself and the students. We used the app Zing this is an app that was easy to use and provided some editing options. It was a great platform to use for grade 3 students who are at the introductory stage of learning stop motion. Something I would improve on is editing. Although we did not have enough time to play with the edit options in detail, I would want to work on understanding how to do voice overs or narrations. This would be a great project to span over a few days or a week.

Now that I had this experience I feel way more confident to implement a stop motion video unit within my teaching.

The school has a community/family feel and I would love to visit again.
