Using AI is it good is it bad? What is AI? AI=Artificial Intelligence refers to computer systems capable of preforming complex tasks that historically only humans could do, such as reasoning, making decisions, or solving problems.

Teacher Assistant: Burn out for teachers is a real situation. AI can help make teachers job a bit easier by providing lesson plan, student project ideas and assist in creating quizzes. This can allow teachers more time to work with their students.

Individualizing learning: AI can help individualize learning experiences for students. Classrooms are created with a class composition of diverse learners. AI can help teachers bring more learning opportunities, as educators we need to provide learning opportunities through a UDL and differentiated lens. AI can revise lessons we create in a variety of ways such as skill or learning levels. AI can also tailor learning that suits individual student interest.

Using AI to assist in student learning: Sometimes a student can feel “stuck” on an assignment, AI can assist a student to move forward. An example of this if a student was to ask AI “how to solve for X?” AI can provide the steps to solve for X. Sometimes a student just needs that small, quick reminder.

Bias: This is so important and crucial to know when using AI. If an AI program is created through bias information then students will get bias answers. This can create stereotypes and social inequalities within student learning. In EDCI 402 I was reminded that AI platforms are created through business. This is important to know that business are out there to make money and they may bend information to help them to make $$$.

Errors: Can be a big problem, if certain AI platforms are producing bias information, then students and teachers will retrieve incorrect information, effecting their success.

Cheating: Students can use AI to write whole essays, answer quiz questions, and complete homework, which can take away from the learning. Apparently there are AI programs that can help teachers detect if AI was used but these programs have also falsely implicated non AI works as plagiarism.

Our roles as educators have continued to change over the years. With technology comes a bit of hesitancy, especially with something as powerful as AI. In our schools, we have to provide opportunities for students to learn about changing technology because of the impact it may have on their future. Not only can AI tools enhance creativity and productivity, but also they can provide educators with valuable insights into student learning and assist with some of the time-consuming tasks that educators have.

It’s worth noting that AI tools with paid versions often provide more precise information. Keeping informed about new technology is essential for educators, given its ever-evolving nature. While staying updated can sometimes feel daunting, participating in professional development sessions focused on emerging and captivating technologies can be immensely beneficial.
