How do you feel about reading?

I have always wanted to be a reader; I envied any of my friends who could finish a book in a few days. If the material is not interesting to me, I have difficulty focusing on the reading. While I have come across a few books that kept me engaged, it’s rare!

What types of books do you like to read?

I don’t have a favorite type of book as my interests are always changing. I don’t particularly enjoy books with a main focus on forensic science, crime, or mystery. If I had to identify a favorite, it would be a topic with a true factor.

List some hobbies you like to do outside of school.

I have a variety of hobbies that I enjoy, and they depend on the season. In spring, summer, and fall, I relish camping, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. During hiking, I prefer the easy to moderate trails. In the winter months I like to cross-country ski (down hill if my knees are up for it), and snowshoe.

Who are your favourite authors?

I don’t have one favorite author; it depends on my mood and what interests me at the time. I don’t always follow the same genre; I am all over the place.

The last book I read that I really enjoyed…

Ever since I started my educational journey with COTR and UVic, I find that I am constantly overwhelmed with reading and I just can’t get motivated to read on my off time. I start the summer with a list of books and never get to them!

What have I done during the winter break and how I have spent my time?

Winter break, for me, is all about family. All my kids are home from university or off from work, and we spend most of that time together. It’s one of my favorite times of the year. I had big plans to go cross-country skiing during my winter break. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough snow to make that possible. Although I intended to ski the Kimberley Nordic track, I never made it up there. Due to the mild weather, we ended up hiking the Butte, which I enjoyed very much.

What topic or subject do you like learning about?

I find geology interesting, as I am a bit of a rock collector. I can’t go anywhere without picking up a rock and bringing it home.

If you could read a book about one thing what would it be?

I find this challenging to answer because the choice of what to read and what interests me is determined by my mood and how I am feeling at the time. I would choose a book with a documentary-style narrative, one that includes a survival element.
